WARRENVILLE, Ill. — At approximately 5:45 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023 the DuPage Public Safety Communications Center (DUCOMM) received a 911 call from a caller stating that there was black smoke “pouring out of the garage” of a single-family residence. A structure fire response sending three engines, two ladder trucks, a squad, two ambulances, and four Chief Officers were dispatched to the scene.

The first Warrenville fire unit arrived on the scene in less than six minutes of the initial 911 call and reported heavy smoke coming from the front, side, and rear of the two-story single-family residential structure. Warrenville crews forced entry into the building and began an aggressive interior fire attack and secured a water supply while other companies began searching the home for occupants. All occupant searches were negative and the home was determined to be vacant at the time of the fire. The fire was deemed under control within sixteen minutes of the initial 911 call. Crews checked for fire extension to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and remained on the scene to assist with the fire investigation.

Due to the nature of the fire in a vacant home, The DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force was called to the scene to assist Warrenville Fire Protection District Fire Investigators and the Warrenville Police Department with the cause and origin investigation.

The Warrenville Fire Protection District was assisted on the scene by the Winfield and West Chicago Fire Protection Districts; and the Wheaton, Fermilab, and Naperville Fire Departments. The Warrenville Police Department and City of Warrenville Building Code Officials also provided assistance.

No firefighters or civilians were injured as a result of this fire. The fire is currently under investigation.
